Two inspectors. Two Acts. One afternoon.

WorkSafe checks whether people are safe at work. MBIE checks whether people are paid and documented correctly. Neither needs to give you a week's notice.

Did you know?

Two different inspectors. Two different checklists. Both can visit without an appointment.

WorkSafe inspectors

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, a WorkSafe inspector can enter your workplace at any reasonable time, inspect, interview workers, take photos, require records, and issue improvement or prohibition notices.

MBIE Labour Inspectors

Under the Employment Relations Act 2000, an MBIE Labour Inspector can enter at any reasonable hour, inspect wage and time records, holiday and leave records, employment agreements, and interview staff.

What WorkSafe looks for

Inspectors do not only read your folder. They ask your team whether H&S is real on the floor. Living registers beat a stale spreadsheet from last year.

  • How hazards are identified and risks controlled on site
  • Whether workers are involved in H&S, not just managers
  • Training and competence for safe work
  • Equipment, PPE, and hazardous substances where relevant
  • Incident response, notifiable events, and site preservation
  • Whether your systems match what happens on the floor

What Riskly helps you show

Hazards, incidents, documents, engagement, and governance in living registers you can open on the day.

Hazards and incidents

Registers with controls, escalation, injury guidance, and WorkSafe notifiable follow-up.

Documents, licences, and training

H&S documents with review dates, plus licence and training expiry tracking.

Worker engagement

Toolbox talks and meetings with register items discussed, plus QR reporting without a login.

Governance and reporting

H&S governance reviews and an Inspector readiness evidence pack you can export as PDF.

What you still need elsewhere

For MBIE employment standards visits, keep wage, time, and leave records in your payroll or HR system. Riskly does not replace that.

  • •Employment agreements
  • •Wage and time records
  • •Holiday and leave records
  • •Minimum wage and lawful deductions

See Employment New Zealand for employment standards guidance.
